Winter Sewing for Sunshine

I'm so excited for winter to be here! I've started making some warm things starting with Sunshine since she has pre-k and is in serious need for warm clothes! The cape is out of my Oliver+S book "Sewing Little Things." Although fleece wasn't a suggested fabric it worked very nice. I wanted it to be practical and keep her warm and boy isn't it comfy, like wearing a soft blanket! The jacket was is the avalon jacket from "Sewing Clothes Kids Love." I used some red apple corduroy Sunshine picked out and some fleece as the liner. Over all we got 2 very warm and cozy things finished yesterday!

Dramatic kids act they are hypothermic when they get out of their baths- hopefully these help!

I made sunshine a dress for picture day. I can't believe my baby girl is in school already!

Winter Hats

Hot coco, coffee, soup, warm blankets, and sewing with soft wools and fleece are just a few reasons I love fall! The cold weather has been inspiring me to sew! I started with a pattern by my favorite company Oliver+S out of their book "little things to sew." The hats were super simple to sew up. I used wool and fleece for my older daughter and just fleece for the baby :)

Wooden Dress Up Doll

Not bad for a $4.99 decorate it yourself project! Sunshine took it as serious business and colored it so pretty! I used Hobby Lobbies%40 off coupon too! Defiantly going to have to get more!

Naptime Crafts- Birthday stuff

I used this crown as inspiration. Would love to have gotten it! I hope this one turns out ok..

Bug Catchers

So my daughter turns  this weekend! I just can't believe it. While we were at the store stocking up on felt to make her birthday banner(pics coming soon) we ran across these cute little bug containers. Sunshine is really into catching ladybugs and rollie pollies so I couldn't resist. We painted them up with some acrylic, glitter and modge podge then glued some jewels to them. I love they way they turned out! Little man painted the small one. So happy bug catching!

Spring Dress Fever

So since it is getting warmer outside I have been wanting to do nothing but sew cute little summer dresses for my sunshine. To top it off finding out I am having another daughter I am seeing pink and purple big time!

 I have been wanting to make a spring dress like this since I saw the pattern. Lace and ruffles everywhere!

Sunshine picked this material out one time in the fabric store- I think she had forgotten about it till she saw the dress! Pink butterflies are her fav!

Knitting baby hats

Well since I don't know if I am having a girl or boy yet I have been trying to make as much gender neutral stuff as I can. I found some lovely green yarn and I am trying to find a perfect pattern to make a newborn baby hat. I really need to watch more videos on how to knit in the round to cause so far I just have to sew a seam in the back. I got the first white hat from a Debbie Bliss book and it is actually for a 3 month old baby. I got the next two here. Knit with different yarns you can see the size variation. To bad I don't remember how big a newborns head is... Guess I can always hold it up to Doo Dah's hospital cap that he wore when he was born.

Sewing Taggies

Oh the wonder of Taggy! Best for babies around 3 months or so when babies first start grabbing and chewing on stuff, It is so easy to make this as a gift or for your own little babe! They can be quite expensive depending on where you look but it really only take a few min and minimal sewing skills to make them.
Materials:
About 1/4 scrap material or 2 squares- cotton, flannel, fleece, or any cuddly material assorted Ribbon scraps of different colors sizes and textures Thread and sewing machine
Directions:
Cut 2 squares out of your material. Sizes can vary depending on how big you want it to be. Some people even make blankets, pillows and books like this for their babies. Cut the ribbons out about 6 inches, fold them in half and pin them to the inside of one square. They will be on the outside when you turn the project right side out.

Sew the other square to this one right sides facing leaving a small space to turn the project right side out. Turn the project right side out and sew up the hole. Make sure to take out all the pins and pull on each ribbon to make sure they are secure. You can even choose to topstich to make extra sure they don't go anywhere.

So even though I have been sick as a dog all weekend, I managed to have a good birthday thanks to my lovely family! Here is just a glimpse! I love you Michael, Hattie and William! Thanks for taking care of me!

New Baby!

So I found out in December that we are expecting a new addition in August! Although not planned we are all very excited. Sunshine has already made it clear she wants a sister and hopefully we find out what it will be soon. I am planning on making as much as I can since this will be our last baby. First project I am beginning to work on will be the bedding set. I bought Sunshine and Doodah's, they were both rather expensive. This Time I plan on making the bumper, sheets and dust ruffle. I found a perfect crib at a thrift store for $24 which I plan on paining Robin Egg Blue! I am gonna go with Blue yellow and White as a color palette and mix so pink in if it turns out to be a girl. I have started the embroidery for the bumper pad already! I used Aunt Martha's Baby Animals Hot iron transfers. Not quite finished but hopefully I can get at least one a day done. I have a lot of projects I want to complete before the baby comes!!
